Bittersweet Celastrus orbiculatus Orange-Green-Yellow – Hardy plant

A fast-growing climbing plant that is a sight to behold! The bittersweet will climb to a height of up to four metres. This climbing plant is hardy but loses its green leaves in winter. The climbing plant produces beautiful red flowers that attract bees and butterflies from May to July.

Plant it in the sun or partial shade and once it has flowered you’ll be able to see yellow berries in the bittersweet from October to February.

Tip: Don’t plant it near to other trees or shrubs. The Dutch name for this plant is the “tree strangler”, as the name suggests its strong grip is damaging to other plants.
