Liriodendron tulipifera – Hardy plant

A tree that grows tulips? Well, not quite. The Liriodendron tulipifera is also called the tulip tree. Its flowers and leaves live up to that name. The tree blossoms in the summer. It lasts for several months. The yellow and orange flowers look like tulips and water lilies. They have a wonderful fragrance. Before the crisp, green leaves fall in the autumn, they change to an orange-yellow. We can’t wait.
The tree needs a spot in full or half sun. The soil should be moist and rich in humus. It’s best to give the tree extra water during dry spells. You can plant these trees in the garden. They can also be planted in a sturdy planter on a patio, roof terrace or balcony.
