Cultivation and Care

• Climate:Thrives in cool weather between55F and 75F (13C24C). High heat causes “bolting,” where the plant sends up a flower stalk and the leaves become bitter.
• Sunlight:Requires at least46 hoursof sun, though it can tolerate partial shade in warmer weather.
• Soil and Water:Prefers well-drained, fertile soil with a pH of6.0 to 7.0. Regular, consistent watering is essential as its shallow roots dry out quickly.
• Harvesting:Can be harvested as “cut-and-come-again” by picking outer leaves, allowing the center to continue growing. Baby leaves are often ready in4 weeks, while full heads take812 weeks.
